Frequently Asked Questions
Documentary wedding photography is an approach to photographing a wedding as it actually unfolds — the people, relationships, atmosphere, and moments, without trying to turn the day into a series of planned or staged photographs.
It doesn't mean there is no place for family photographs, couple portraits, or photographs where you are intentionally facing the camera. There absolutely is. But even these photographs are made in a way that feels natural to you and doesn't take over the day. The difference is in the perspective: rather than trying to create the moment, I look for the moment that already exists.
Documentary photography also doesn't mean that I simply "let things happen" without ever intervening. I need to know how to read a situation, be in the right place at the right time, understand relationships, light, and movement — and sometimes know when to move closer, when to step back, and when to offer gentle direction. For me, the beauty lies exactly in that balance between observation and presence.
Instead of stopping what is happening and staging every moment, I observe. I am there to notice the things that happen naturally: the excitement before the ceremony, a parent's expression when they see you for the first time, a friend breaking into laughter at the table, a hand resting on a shoulder, a quiet moment, a spontaneous dance, or someone you love quietly present in the background. These are moments you may not even notice in real time.
Ultimately, the goal isn't only for you to remember what your wedding looked like, but to remember how it felt. Who you loved that day. Who was there for you. What your family looked like when everyone was together. What made you laugh. What moved you. What the room felt like just before everything began. Years from now, these aren't necessarily the things you will remember on your own. Documentary photography is there to preserve them for you.
The cost of wedding or proposal photography varies depending on the number of hours you need and what you'd like to receive at the end.
My starting coverage includes one hour of couple portraits — either close to the event or somewhere else you've dreamed of — followed by up to four hours of photography during the event itself.
But there is no reason your story should have to fit into a fixed package. If you'd like, I can also join you throughout your preparation day, from the quiet moments before everything begins through the celebration itself. And if you're celebrating over several days, we can document an entire week of celebrations, gatherings, and the moments in between.
That's why I don't have one package that fits everyone. The price depends on your day, the number of hours you need, the location, and what matters most to you when it comes to the photography.
If you're planning a wedding or proposal and would like to understand what we could create for you, send me your date and location and I'd be happy to send you all the details.
I recommend starting to look for a photographer once you have a date and a venue. Not because you need to rush, but because photography is such an important part of how you'll remember the day, and it's worth giving yourself time to find someone whose work and approach genuinely speak to you.
If you're planning a wedding during a busy season, on a popular date, or on a Friday, it's worth reaching out earlier to increase the chances that the photographer you want will be available.
At the same time, not everything happens months in advance. Sometimes a wedding comes together at the last minute, and sometimes you simply find the right person a few weeks before. If the date is available, there is no reason not to.
For me, choosing a photographer isn't only about choosing a photography style. It's also about choosing the person who will be beside you during some of the most personal moments of the day — from getting ready to the dancing. That's why it's important to me that we have a good feeling between us, that you can be yourselves around me, and that you feel you can simply live your day while I observe and document it.
If you already have a date and venue, you're welcome to get in touch. I'd love to hear about you, what you're planning, and see if I'm available for your date.
